I am new to Genealogy; but the more I get into my family tree, the more I realize how much there is to learn. I have a few Rhode Island ancestors and have found Rhode Island more difficult than Massachusetts after 1920 I can’t find anything, your site took a lot of the mystery out why I can’t find the same things in Rhode Island that I can find in Massachusetts.
If anyone needs help with New Hampshire, this site has been indispensable for helping learn whats available in New Hampshire…..

Any suggestions for sites that are good for Massachusetts or Connecticut resources?

Well, not really, but if others do, they can note them here. Both Massachusetts and Connecticut are somewhat large and complicated; it’s not too surprising that there is not extensive information being offered for free. NEHGS publishes the book Genealogist’s Handbook for New England Research, 5th edition. This will be helpful but will not always be completely up to date on web resources.
If I were to give one piece of advice, it would be to consult the “Catalog” of the Familysearch.org website for the location of interest, and look at record sets records with the location “Online.” I have a blog post coming on this soon.

That cracked me up, Mary Beth. I really do like the huge book put out by the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society – the Gazeteer:

It’s got to be in a lot of libraries by now. Seems to have a lot of county-by-county resources and many general articles. Good luck!!
