Kathy, always s lot to learn with genealogy. Try going chapter by chapter through an introductory book like Genealogy Basics In 30 Minutes. There’s always a lot more out there than census and vital records.

How do I find out if a marriage has been null? I can not find my ggparents wedding date. Hannah Northrup b. 1873 and John C. Baker b.? had a child Isaac Baker b.1873 in North Kingstown, RI. I also, can not find out anything about John C Baker so I was hoping the marriage certificate would have some information.

Hi Corinne. I think there are some typos here with the years, but vital records from about 1851 through the legal privacy cutoff (about 100 years prior to today) will be recorded at the State Archives. They will accept one request at a time, with the facts and the question clearly listed in writing. See this blog post for that link:
https://onerhodeislandfamily.com/2014/03/06/rhode-island-state-archives/
then look for “Unable to Visit” on the Archives page.

Diane, thank you so much for the links. I am going to be at the NERGC in April and plan to go to the RI Archives. Having these references to review prior to my trip will be very helpful. Researching Gibbs, Worth, Sherman, Vaughn, Sweet, Covey, Congdon, Lanphere, Mumford and others in RI. Karen P.
